Thank You Parents & Whole Foods!

Whole Foods across the nation are choosing ONE local school in their area to be the recipient of their 5% Give Back Day. You might remember that Roosevelt Elementary was lucky enough to be chosen to receive 5% of all sales from Park Ridge Whole Foods on September 20th, 2017. Today we were greeted with a large check totaling $3,356.07 and Dr. Dwyer, Roosevelt Principal, Nancy LaBreacht from Whole Foods,  Vikki Spiteri from the Roosevelt PTO and Mrs. Sarmiento’s AM Kindergarten class were there to accept it! Whole Foods also gave each of the 89 staff members a $5.00 gift card and the staff gets to enjoy a basket of treats at their holiday party!

Thank you to Whole Foods and all of you who shopped on the 17th of September to make this happen. Look for new benches around Roosevelt’s campus as a result of this generous donation!

UCAN Holiday Gift Drive 2017

Once again, Student Council will be partnering with the UCAN of Chicago to help Foster children and orphans have a Merry Christmas too.

Each classroom will get holiday wishes from two children and will be asked to raise money to help fulfill those wishes.  The money will be collected from each classroom, and then given to one of the classroom room parents, who will then do the shopping.

The money should be turned in to your classroom teacher by no later than Thursday, November 30th!

The room parent should return  the gifts to school unwrapped and labeled no later than Tuesday, December 5th.

We CAN make a difference, and we CAN see to it that many children have a very Merry Christmas!

If you have any questions, please contact Tina O’Donnell, codonnell@d64.org,  or Shannon Ryan, sryan@d64.org.

Thank you, Roosevelt families, for your never-ending generosity.

Help Hurricane Irma Families

The Kindness Committee has organized a service initiative for our Roosevelt community in response to the urgent needs resulting from Hurricane Irma.  Many families in affected areas have lost everything.  Together we can assist the Marion County Florida School District and show them that their community is supported and cared for.

As we head into the Thanksgiving season please join us in providing low income students with desperately needed necessities including clean socks, underwear, deodorant, school supplies and backpacks.

Look for additional details regarding this service initiative in a letter to be sent home with your child this week.  Donations will be accepted from:
November 1st through November 17th

Family Skate Night

Join us Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 from 4:30 – 7:00pm, for our 2nd Annual Family Fun Night at the Orbit Skate Center (615 S. Consumers Ave, Palatine).

Too Much Candy?

No one wants extra Halloween candy sitting around after Trick or Treating is done!  That’s why Roosevelt’s Student Council has teamed up with the Soldier’s Angels “Treats for Troops” program.

Just drop off your extra candy in the boxes outside of the main office and all of our donated candy will be shipped to deployed service members or distributed to veterans in VA hospitals across the country.

Crayola ColorCycle

We’re excited to tell you about a very special program the PTO is coordinating at our school in conjunction with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing new program devised to turn used markers into energy!

All around Roosevelt students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!

Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off box will be located right outside the LRC for your child to deposit the markers.

Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!

If you have any questions, contact our parent volunteer, Melissa Galbadores-Baranchik at thebaranchiks@gmail.com

District received Board approval to go to bid

Thank you to all the Roosevelt parents who attended Dr. Dwyer’s tours, e-mailed the Board, spoke at the Board meeting Monday night, 10/23, and were in attendance. They heard our voices and unanimously passed the motion to allow the District to go to bid for the proposed 2018 projects which include many life safety issues at Roosevelt as well as capital projects including the secure vestibule and main office relocation/classroom relocation.

2018 Summer Construction

Get Informed & Make Your Opinion Known

Dr. Dwyer sent out a detailed e-mail to all Roosevelt families on 10/11/17 regarding the proposed remodel to Roosevelt’s 90 year old building. The Roosevelt PTO Board encourages you to become informed about the plans and to make your opinion known. Silence often gets translated to ambivalence. Let the D64 Board and Dr. Heinz know you care about Roosevelt’s future.

Dr. Dwyer will be leading two short, informational tours next week to tour the areas of Roosevelt that will be touched by the proposed remodel.

  • Thursday, October 19 at 3:45 p.m. & at 7:00 pm – both 20-minute tours

  • Friday, October 20 at 8:35 a.m. – 20-minute tour before school (children are outdoors in supervised play before the bell)

Read Chicago Tribune article regarding Boosting Security in D64

Moving forward, the Roosevelt summer 2018 proposed project will be discussed at the Monday, October 23 Board of Education meeting, which will be conducted at Franklin School, 2401 Manor Lane, Park Ridge. The meeting currently is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., but will be reverified prior to the meeting.

Dr. Dwyer and the Roosevelt PTO Executive Board invite you to attend this meeting to listen to the Board discussion and share your thoughts during the Public Comment portion. You may also email your thoughts to Dr. Dwyer and Dr. Laurie Heinz lheinz@d64.org, and contact members of the Board through this link http://www.d64.org/boe/contact-board-of-education.
